Founded in 1834, Franklin College is a residential four-year undergraduate liberal arts institution 20 minutes from downtown Indianapolis. The College prepares men and women for significant careers through the liberal arts, offering its 1,018 students 29 majors including biology, business, education, and journalism. In 1842, it became the first coeducational institution in Indiana, and the seventh in the nation, to admit women. Franklin College maintains a voluntary association with the American Baptist Churches USA.
Franklin College shall attain excellence as a personal, participatory, values-focused, career-sensitive, liberal arts teaching and learning undergraduate community. The college shall motivate and prepare its graduates for productive and satisfying lives of excellence, leadership and service.
Our beautiful campus provides an environment where intellectual discovery flourishes. Franklin students learn from outstanding faculty and staff who are teachers, scholars and leaders in their disciplines. We help students grow inside and outside of the classroom by encouraging respect, honesty, responsibility, faith and the pursuit of lifelong learning.
The Franklin College campus spans 187 acres, including athletic fields and a 31-acre biology woodland. Because Franklin is close to Indianapolis, its residents enjoy easy access to the resources offered by a large city, but they can also enjoy the charm and small-town atmosphere of Franklin itself, which has a population of roughly 20,000.
